What sir.gg is
sir.gg gives you a short, permanent link like sir.gg/yourname that you can point anywhere, and change whenever you want.
It was built for Discord. Invites expire, get deleted or change, and every time that happens the old link you posted everywhere stops working. With sir.gg you post sir.gg/yourname once. When the invite changes, you update it in your dashboard and every place you already shared it follows.
What you get
- A name you own. First come, first served. Nobody can take it from you. See Link names.
- Repointing. Change where the link goes at any time. See Destinations.
- Discord awareness. Server previews with live member counts, and a warning when your invite stops working. See Discord invites.
- Analytics. Clicks, unique visitors, countries, devices and referrers. See Analytics.
- A public directory. List your link on Browse so people can find it. See Browse.
- A backup. A second destination that takes over if the first one breaks. See Backup destination.
What it costs
Nothing. There's no paid tier, no trial and no feature held back behind a subscription. You don't need Nitro or a boosted server.
What sir.gg is not
sir.gg is a redirector. It doesn't host, review or endorse the sites its links point to. Each link belongs to the person who made it. Read the Disclaimer.
Make your first link
From nothing to a working sir.gg/yourname in about a minute.
- Check the name. Type it into the box on sir.gg. Checking is free and needs no account. It tells you straight away if the name is free, taken or reserved.
- Make an account. Pick a username and a password at app.sir.gg/register. If you came from a free name, it carries over so you don't have to type it again.
- Claim it. In your dashboard, press New link (or the N key), enter the name and paste where it should go, for example your Discord invite.
- Share it. Post
sir.gg/yourname wherever you like. Click it once yourself to see the redirect page.
After that
Tip. In the dashboard, N opens a new link and / jumps to search.
Official pages
Everything run by sir.gg lives on its own subdomain. Anything at sir.gg/name is a user's link.
This rule is how you tell an official page from a user's link. A page at sir.gg/privacy or sir.gg/support is a short link someone made, not a sir.gg page, and it does not speak for us.
| Address | What it is |
| sir.gg | The home page. sir.gg/name is always a user's link. |
| app.sir.gg | Your dashboard, plus log in, sign up and link stats. |
| browse.sir.gg | The public directory of listed links. |
| wiki.sir.gg | This wiki. |
| preview.sir.gg | A demo of the redirect page, on a loop. |
| watermark.sir.gg | The official list of GFX work signed sir.gg. |
| admin.sir.gg | Staff only. It is locked to sir.gg administrators. |
| login.sir.gg, register.sir.gg | Shortcuts that forward to the log in and sign up pages on app.sir.gg. |
The old addresses, like sir.gg/dashboard or sir.gg/browse, still work and forward to their new homes. Any other subdomain sends you to the home page. If you type a link name on the wrong subdomain, it is passed back to sir.gg so the link still works.
The one official Discord contact is admin.sir.gg, that exact name. See Contact.
Link names
The part after sir.gg/. It's yours from the moment you claim it until you delete it or hand it over.
Rules
- 2 to 21 characters. Past 21, a short link stops being short.
- Letters, numbers and dashes only. Spaces, dots and underscores aren't allowed.
- No dash at the start or end.
my-server works, -myserver doesn't.
- Not case sensitive.
sir.gg/MyServer and sir.gg/myserver are the same link. Names are stored in lowercase.
- Not reserved. A small list of names is kept for the site itself. See Reserved names.
Who gets a name
First come, first served. Once a name is yours, nobody else can claim it, and it stays yours even if it gets no clicks. The only ways it leaves you are deleting it or handing it over with a one-time code.
Checking a name
The box on the home page checks names live and tells you why one won't work: too short, a character that isn't allowed, a dash at either end, or a reserved name. A private link shows as taken without saying who owns it.
Opening a name nobody has
Visiting a free name, like sir.gg/somethingnew, shows a page that says nobody has the link yet, with a button to claim it. A reserved name shows why it's kept instead.
How many
Each account can hold 10 links. Your dashboard shows how many you've used.
Destinations and repointing
The destination is where your link sends people. You can change it as often as you like.
What a destination can be
- A full web address starting with
https:// or http://.
- Not another sir.gg link. A link can't point back at sir.gg.
Repointing
Open the link in your dashboard, change the destination on the Destination tab and save. The address stays the same, so every place you already posted it now goes to the new place. You don't need to re-share anything.
Changing the destination also resets the health record used by the backup destination, so a new destination starts with a clean slate.
Discord invites. When the destination is a Discord invite, sir.gg also reads the server name, icon and member counts. See
Discord invites.
The redirect page
When someone opens your link, sir.gg can show a short animation that says where they're going before it sends them there.
What it shows
- Your link and the destination, joined by an animated line.
- For a Discord invite: the server's icon and name, and how many members are online.
- A Skip button, and a note that sir.gg doesn't control the destination.
It takes about two seconds, a little less for people who have reduced motion turned on. You can watch it on preview.sir.gg.
Turning it off
Each link has a Redirect animation setting: Default, On or Off. Default follows the site-wide setting, which is currently on. With it off, visitors go straight to the destination.
When it's skipped anyway
- Adding
?nosplash=1 to the link, for example sir.gg/yourname?nosplash=1.
- Requests that aren't a person opening a page, like an image or a script loading the link.
- Link-preview bots (Discord, X and others) never see it. They get the preview card instead.
If a browser has JavaScript turned off, the page still forwards on its own after three seconds.
Link previews (embeds)
The card that appears when you paste your link into Discord or another app.
The Embed tab
| Field | Limit | Notes |
| Title | 120 characters | Leave empty to use the automatic title. |
| Description | 300 characters | Leave empty to use the automatic text. |
| Colour | Hex, like #5865f2 | The strip down the left side of the card in Discord. |
Invite links
On the Invite tab, a link that points at a Discord invite can build its card from the server itself: the server name as the title and a line like 12 online · 340 members · Join on Discord. The strip is green while the invite works.
Big image shows the server banner (or the icon if there's no banner) as a large picture. Discord shows preview images either large or not at all, so this is an on or off choice.
One limit. A sir.gg link can't show Discord's own invite card with a Join button. Only real discord.gg links get that.
Updates
Apps cache preview cards. sir.gg refreshes a server's details for previews when they're more than 10 minutes old, but Discord may keep showing an older card for a while after you change something.
Private links
A private link works exactly like any other. It just doesn't show up anywhere public.
- It's left out of the recent and popular lists, search results and Browse. Privacy wins over a published listing.
- Checking the name shows it as taken, without the owner or the click count.
- Anyone who has the link can still open it.
Turn it on with the Private switch on the link's Destination tab.
Backup destination
A second destination that takes over by itself when the main one breaks, and hands back when it's fixed.
When the backup is used
- The main destination is a Discord invite that no longer works, or
- the main destination failed its last check.
What counts as broken
sir.gg opens the destination once and waits up to 5 seconds. It counts as down if it doesn't answer, answers with a server error (any 5xx), or says the page doesn't exist (404 or 410). Answers like "forbidden" or "log in first" count as up, because the site is clearly there.
How often it's checked
At most every 10 minutes, and only while the link is getting clicks. The check runs in the background, so it never slows a visitor down.
Going back
As soon as the main destination checks fine again, the link goes back to it. While the backup is in use, your dashboard shows an On backup label on the link.
A backup follows the same rules as a destination: a full web address, and not a sir.gg link.
Handing a link over
Give a link to another sir.gg user with a one-time code. Nobody can take a link from you without it.
- On the link's Transfer tab, enter the other person's sir.gg username and send the request.
- They see a 6-digit code on their dashboard.
- They tell you the code, and you enter it to finish. You'll do a quick bot check.
Rules
- A request expires after 24 hours.
- After 5 wrong codes, the request is cancelled.
- You can have up to 5 requests waiting at once, and one per link.
- It won't go through if it would take the other person past 10 links.
- Either of you can cancel or decline before it's done.
The link moves with its settings and click history. Ownership is checked again at the last moment, so a link can't be handed over twice.
Deleting a link
Deleting removes the link and its click history, and frees the name for anyone to claim.
Use the Delete tab on the link and type its name to confirm. This can't be undone. If you just want a different destination, repoint it instead. If you want someone else to have it, hand it over so it keeps its history.
Discord invites
Point a link at a Discord invite and sir.gg reads the server's name, icon, banner and live counts.
What counts as an invite
discord.gg/CODE and discord.com/invite/CODE, including the older discordapp addresses.
Where the server details show up
- The redirect page: icon, name and how many people are online.
- The preview card in Discord and other apps.
- Your link's icon, when you haven't set one yourself.
- Browse: the server name as a fallback title, and the member count.
When an invite stops working, sir.gg tells you. See Dead invite detection.
Dead invite detection
sir.gg notices when the invite behind your link stops working, and tells you so you can swap in a new one.
When an invite counts as dead
Only when Discord says the invite doesn't exist. If Discord is slow, busy or unreachable, the result counts as unknown and your link is left alone. A hiccup on Discord's side never marks a working invite as dead.
When it's checked
- Right after you claim the link.
- When you open your dashboard. Working invites are re-checked every 6 hours, and ones that failed every 10 minutes.
- When an app builds a preview of your link and the details are more than 10 minutes old.
- Every 10 minutes while the link gets clicks, if it has a backup destination.
What you see
An alert in your dashboard and an Invite dead label on the link. Make a new invite in Discord, paste it in as the destination, and you're back. Nothing needs re-sharing.
Avoid it. Create invites in Discord with the expiry set to Never.
Linking Discord
Link your Discord account to log in with it and to show your Discord avatar.
How
Dashboard, then Account, then Link Discord. After that, the Log in with Discord button works for you.
What sir.gg can see
Only your Discord username and avatar. Not your servers, email or messages. They refresh each time you log in with Discord.
Rules
- You sign up with a username and password first. Discord can't create an account, only log in to one that's already linked.
- One Discord account can be linked to one sir.gg account.
- Unlinking is safe. Your password always stays, so you can't lock yourself out.
Webhook notifications
Get a message in your own Discord channel when you make a link or one of your links passes a click milestone.
Setting it up
- In Discord, open your channel's settings, go to Integrations, then Webhooks, and copy a webhook URL.
- In your sir.gg dashboard, open Account, then Notifications, and paste it in.
- Choose which events you want. Both are on by default.
Only Discord webhook addresses are accepted, the kind that start with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/.
Events
| Event | Message |
| Link created | sir.gg/name is live. With the destination and whether it's private. |
| Click milestone | sir.gg/name just passed N clicks. |
Milestones are 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 50,000, 100,000, 500,000 and 1,000,000 clicks. Each one is sent once per link.
Analytics
Every link has a stats page with clicks, visitors and where they came from. Only you, the owner, can see it.
What the stats page shows
- Total clicks, unique visitors and clicks in the last 30 days.
- Clicks and unique visitors per day, over 7, 30 or 90 days.
- Devices (desktop, mobile, tablet) and operating systems.
- The top 12 referrers. "(direct)" means no referrer, for example a link opened from an app.
- The top 15 countries.
What counts as a click
A person opening the link. Link-preview bots, like the one Discord uses to build a card, aren't counted. A unique visitor is one network address, so several people on the same network can count as one.
How long it's kept
For as long as the link exists. Deleting the link deletes its history.
See What sir.gg stores for exactly what's recorded per click.
The Browse directory
browse.sir.gg lists links that their owners chose to publish, so people can find them.
Getting listed
On the link's Listing tab, fill in the details and switch on Published. A private link never appears, even if it's published.
| Field | Limit |
| Title | 80 characters. Falls back to the Discord server name. |
| Description | 300 characters. |
| Tags | Up to 6. Lowercase letters, numbers and dashes. |
| Icon and banner | See Icons, banners and uploads. |
Sorting
- Trending: clicks in the last 7 days. This is the default.
- New: listings most recently updated.
- All time: total clicks.
Search looks in the name, title, description and tags. Tag buttons filter to one tag.
What a card shows
The banner, icon, title, description, up to 4 tags, clicks and how many came this week, unique visitors, the member count for a working invite, and the owner, with the verified check if they have one.
Icons, banners and uploads
Give your link an icon and a wide banner. Upload them, or paste a link to an image.
Where they show
- Icon: the home page lists, Browse and the redirect page. Without one, a Discord invite uses the server icon.
- Banner: the top of your Browse card. About 16:5 works best.
Uploading
| Types | PNG, JPG, GIF (animated is fine) and WebP. SVG isn't accepted. |
| Size | Up to 4 MB. |
| How many | 30 uploads a day per account. |
| Address | Uploads are served from sir.gg/i/…. |
| Pasted links | Must start with https://, up to 600 characters. |
The file type is read from the file itself, not its name, so renaming a file doesn't get around the rules. You can delete images you uploaded with the trash button next to the field. When an image is removed, the link falls back to its default look.
Uploaded images on quiet links are cleaned up after a while. See Image cleanup.
Image cleanup
To save storage, uploaded images on links nobody visits are removed. One button keeps them.
The rules
- An uploaded image on a link with fewer than 20 clicks in the last 30 days is removed once the image is 30 days old.
- An upload that no link uses is removed after 7 days.
- Images you linked from somewhere else (not uploaded) are never touched.
Cleanup runs at most once a day.
Keeping your images
When a link is at risk, your dashboard shows an Images at risk label and an alert with its click count. Press Keep images to protect them for another 30 days. You can press it again when that runs out.
Your account
A username and a password. That's all sir.gg asks for.
| Username | 3 to 24 characters: letters, numbers, dot, dash or underscore. Not case sensitive, and unique. |
| Password | 8 to 128 characters. It's stored hashed, never as plain text. |
| Staying logged in | 30 days, then you log in again. Logging out ends the session straight away. |
| Links | 10 per account. |
Bot check
Signing up, logging in, claiming a link and confirming a transfer each include a quick automatic check that you're a person. If it says the check expired, refresh the page and try again.
Too many tries
To stop abuse, there's a limit on sign-ups and failed logins from one network in a short time. If you hit it, wait a while and try again.
Forgot your password
There's no password reset on the site yet. If you linked Discord, you can still log in with Discord. Otherwise, get in touch through Contact.
Where you're signed in
Your login only lives on app.sir.gg. Other sir.gg pages can only ask whether you're signed in and see your username, so they can show a Dashboard button.
The verified check
A white check next to a username means a sir.gg administrator has verified that account.
It shows next to the owner's name on the home page lists, Browse and search results, and on the redirect page. Hover it, or focus it with the keyboard, to see This user is verified by a sir.gg administrator.
Getting verified
Email [email protected] or message admin.sir.gg on Discord with your sir.gg username.
The check is about the account owner. It isn't a review of the sites their links point to.
What sir.gg stores
Only what the features need. Network addresses are never stored in readable form.
| What | Stored |
| Account | Username, password hash, the date you joined, your settings and your webhook address if you set one. |
| Session | A session cookie (30 days), with a one-way hash of your network address and a short note of your browser. |
| Each click | Time, country, a one-way hash of the visitor's network address, the browser string and the referring page. |
| Discord | Only if you link it: your Discord ID, username and avatar. |
| Uploads | The image, who uploaded it and when. |
Cookies
One login cookie on app.sir.gg, and a short-lived one during Discord login. No ad or tracking cookies.
Removing your data
Deleting a link deletes its click history. There's no self-serve account deletion yet. To ask about it, email [email protected] from the address you want a reply on, with your username.
Reporting a link
If a sir.gg link points somewhere dangerous or harmful, tell us.
Email [email protected] with:
- the full link, for example
sir.gg/name, and
- a short description of what it does.
Reported links are reviewed and removed where appropriate.
Disclaimer
sir.gg is a link redirection service. Links are created by our users.
We do not host, control, review or endorse the destination of any link. We are not responsible for the content, safety, accuracy or availability of any site a sir.gg link points to. Always make sure you trust a link before you click it.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, sir.gg accepts no liability for malware, data loss, or any other harm arising from a destination you are redirected to.
Anything at sir.gg/name is a user's link and does not speak for sir.gg. See Official pages.
Sponsor spots
The home page has four sponsor spots that turn in a ring at the top of the page.
Each spot has an image or a title card, a short line of text and a button that opens a sir.gg link. An empty spot shows Advertise here.
Getting a spot
Email [email protected] or message admin.sir.gg on Discord with your Discord username and the link you want the spot to point at.
Scam warning. The only official Discord contact is admin.sir.gg, that exact name. Anyone else claiming to sell sponsor spots is not us.
sir.gg on a GFX
sir.gg is also the name its owner signs graphics work with.
watermark.sir.gg is the official list of that work. If you see a GFX signed sir.gg that isn't on the list, it isn't theirs. The page also explains the sharing rules: credit sir.gg, don't edit out the mark and don't resell the work.
Contact
Two official ways to reach sir.gg.
Use them for reports, verification, sponsor spots, account problems or anything this wiki doesn't answer. Nobody from sir.gg will ask for your password.

The files that make the site work are also kept: sitemap.xml, robots.txt, favicon.ico, logo.png, styles.css, ui.css, app.js, nav.js, rain.js, splash.js and turnstile.js. Most of these can't be names anyway, because dots aren't allowed.

FAQ
The questions people ask most.
Is it actually free?
Yes. There's no paid tier, no trial and no limit hidden behind a subscription. You don't need Nitro or a boosted server.
What happens if my Discord invite expires?
sir.gg notices the invite stopped working and flags it on your link. Make a new invite, paste it in, and you're back without re-sharing anything. More
Which names can I use?
2 to 21 characters: letters, numbers and dashes, with no dash at the start or end. A few names like admin, login and browse are kept for the site itself. More
Can I change where my link goes?
Any time, from your dashboard. The link stays the same, so everywhere you already posted it now goes to the new place.
Can someone else take my name?
Not once it's yours. Each name has one owner. You can hand it to someone else on purpose with a one-time code, and nobody can take it from you. More
How many links can I have?
10 per account. All limits
Why doesn't my link show Discord's Join button?
Discord only shows its own invite card for real discord.gg links. sir.gg shows a card with the server name and live counts instead. More
Is sir.gg/privacy an official page?
No. Every official page is on a subdomain. Anything at sir.gg/name is a user's link. More
How do I report a bad link?
